Summary:
King Hrothgar, the ruler of the Danes, is troubled by a demon named Grendel. Grendel attacks King Hrothgar's wealthy mead-hall. Beowulf travels to Herot Hall from his own lands overseas to assist the King with Grendel. Beowulf is waiting for Grendel when he attacks next. Beowulf fights Grendel and rips his arm off. Grendel then flees back to the swamp and dies. Everyone throws a big party and Beowulf receives many gifts from Hrothgar. Grendel’s mother lives in a desolate lake, comes to Herot seeking revenge for her son’s death. She murders Hrothgar's closest friend. Beowulf tracks her back to her lair. He discovers its in a cave in the lake. Beowulf dives into the lake and finds the cave. Beowulf fights Grendel's Mother in a one on one fight and slays her too. Beowulf returns to the surface, carrying the sword hilt and Grendel's severed head. When everyone sees that Beowulf has survived this second challenge, there's even more partying and gift-giving. Finally, Beowulf says goodbye to King Hrothgar and sails back to his homeland. Eventually, Beowulf becomes the King of the Geats. Beowulf reigns as king for fifty years, protecting his people and villages around him. One day, Beowulf meets his match. A stealing thief awakens a dragon who attacks Beowulf's people. It burns down villages and kills a lot of people. Beowulf takes eleven trusty warriors and the thief who knows where the dragon's lair is, to slay the beast.
